"2022 marks the 30th anniversary of the AbbVie CF Scholarship. As we celebrate this milestone, we look forward to continuing to recognize more students pursing their educational goals. Please share your future ambitions in the Cystic Fibrosis community, professionally and personally."
Just like my journey into establishing who I am as a person who lives with Cystic Fibrosis, I know the cure to CF isn’t a straight path. It’s an evolving road map with many construction barriers and unique challenges. I have been a CF ambassador ever since I can remember. I believe it is the grassroots advocacy that allows the research to occur and the medicines to get to the population faster, and for this, I will never stop advocating. I watch my mother on a monthly basis attend a Patient Family Advisory Board at Connecticut Children's Medical Center. This group helps to bridge the gap between medical care and the support of families who have children with Cystic Fibrosis. I will become active in this group upon transition to the CF adult center at Hartford Hospital. Throughout my college career, I intend to stay as involved with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as possible; as I know that we are at the forefront of finding a cure. At Bryant University, students have the opportunity to create clubs if one is lacking. My goal is to create a fundraising club that would benefit those who suffer from incurable diseases. When I graduate college, I know I will be a successful business person and am hoping to provide personal financial support to the foundation; in hopes of allowing for further research. In addition, I plan on being an advocate for people living with Cystic Fibrosis by providing interviews about balancing leadership and CF in the workplace. With this, my goal is to end the negative stereotypes that come along with someone who has a disease and may be compromised. I feel by being involved, I will help younger children and families that struggle with Cystic Fibrosis to see that you can create a life with an illness while being supported by innovative medicine. I am hopeful to be in a position where my company will be a sponsor for the CF Foundation. I intend to network with like-business people to use my networking to create additional fundraising events for Cystic Fibrosis. To bring this full circle, with monetary donations, creating a club, establishing a new normal in the workplace, networking with individuals within the business field, and being part of the Patient Family Advisory board at my local hospital (Hartford Hospital), I will not stop until the initials CF will ultimately be named Cure Found.
