Summertime Snacks for Kids With CF
Sit poolside with these summertime favorites your kids will love.

Fruits, vegetables, and savory snacks
It’s especially important for people with CF to eat a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, which are an important source of vitamins and nutrients. Savory snacks can also provide extra protein, fiber, and other vitamins that are essential for a balanced diet. Here are suggestions to make these nutritious snacks more caloric and taste even better:
- Fruit dipped in whipped cream
- Celery and peanut butter
- Pita bread and hummus
- Air-popped popcorn
- Dried fruit
- Trail mix with chocolate and nuts
Modify your recipes
Sometimes you need to modify a recipe to accommodate individual dietary needs. These creative additions can encourage kids with CF to eat foods they may not typically reach for:
- Add or substitute non-fat and full-fat milks, yogurts, dressings, and cheeses
- Use peanut butter as a dipping sauce
- Cut fruits and veggies into fun shapes
Try out this recipe from one of our own, Danielle M. (a CF patient), which is her savory Meat Roll-ups. Her special ingredient is not what you’d expect, but it adds extra protein and healthy fat to this simple and delicious snack.
